Bromont World Cup / Canberra World Cup Wednesday, September 03, 2008
I'm currently sitting at Jared Graves house in Toowoomba and after the two latest World Cups I'm well and truly sick of seeing the rain! Bromont was a short course, a really good mix of terrain though. The lift basically followed the course up the mountain so being able to watch riders while you headed up was pretty cool. Practice was a mud fest and the middle of the course being steep and technical was a challenge. Bit of a shame that the bottom popped out onto a flat section, it still had good flow which was a plus but still a pedal. I couldn't improve on my qualifying result of 8th and finished 13th.
Canberra is the the site for the 2009 World Champs and its going to be a physical challenge! The Mountain is more like an ant hill. When we showed up there I was really shocked how small the hill truly was. To give them credit, after walking the course it wasn't as bad as I thought and there was some really cool looking sections. It had a good mix of jumps, rocks and berms along with some moto whoop sections. The only downer for the track is that at the bottom you have at least 30-40 seconds of pedaling to the finish and not really the ideal way to end a World Cup downhill course. The sun was out for training but come race day the rain was back and that finishing sprint became a hell of a lot harder. After qualifying 14th I was keen to take some time off my run. I did that in my race run taking 4 seconds off but was unable to improve on my result and finished the weekend in 15th.
Far from happy with the last few World Cup results but still holding onto 9th overall in the series and keen now to head to europe for the Finals and finish the year off on a good note.
